(This is sort of inspired by Mignuna's "Big. Fake. Boobs." article; I'd been pondering this for a while, but her post was a catalyst for me to make public my own observations.)
So why is it that women's boobs get all the attention? And I don't just mean getting stared at, I mean being talked about. Yes, a lot of men (myself included) enjoy the occasional lingering gander at a well-formed, bountiful bosom, but that is far from the only interesting thing about a woman. I, for one, am actually partial to a nicely shaped eyebrow (well, a set of them, I suppose.) I know women do pay some amount of attention to making sure they don't have eyebrow hair getting tangled in their bangs and such, and indeed many women go so far as to remove fully 3/4 or even more of their natural eyebrows. This is, in my opinion, almost uniformly a mistake. Okay, there are a few pathological cases where eyebrows may become confused with overgrown back hair, but let's not concern ourselves with those. A little shaping, a little maintaining, and you have a facial element both functional and attractive.
The eyebrows of a lady can do much on their own to be intriguing and delightful. It's not something I would normally compliment specifically, but it is something I take note of.
And on the other hand (so to speak), there is an element of the female form that I think receives way too much attention: the fingernails. I have never understood why someone would pay through the nose to have a part of their body pampered so richly when that body part doesn't even have any nerve endings. I can appreciate the utility of having nails of a certain reasonable length; great for scratching, usable as an impromptu screwdriver, nice to have when you've got something stuck in your teeth, et cetera. But paying $75 or more to have them uniformly trimmed, lacquered, hardened, colored, and even decorated with little flowers? Ack! Who's even going to look at them anyway? GIve me a $1.29 pair of nail clippers and 3 minutes, and I've got all the nail care I think anyone should need, thank you very much.
Anyone else care to mention particular body elements that they feel are unduly neglected, or overly valued?
